Social Housing in Palma - HARQUITECTES

The plot now occupied by this Social Housing &mdashprimarily intended for seniors&mdash had been occupied by a building that could not be preserved. We were forced to demolish it due to its poor condition and because it did not comply with regulations. It was a small school, no longer in use, of three storeys, built with load-bearing walls made from marès stone and concrete and brick floors. The distinctive strategy of this design was to make use of the materials from the demolition of that old school as a resource for the construction of the new building, engaging in what could be called urban mining: where the material resources are taken from the (urban) plot itself, derived from the demolition of a pre-existing building.
