Americana House

From 1910 to 1960, the Colonia Americana was developed adjacent to the historic centre of Guadalajara, originally intended, above all, for single-family homes with one or two storeys. Perhaps, more than in the historic centre, and more than at any other time, in Colonia Americana Tapatía (Guadalajaran) architecture found its unique spirit in the early works of Luis Barragán and his contemporaries. The uses given to this group of similar homes changed over the years, with houses being turned into shops, offices or restaurants, some of which were subsequently demolished. After the 1980s, families began moving toward the city's outskirts.
