Isla Holbox, Quintana Roo, México 2014 2017

Punta Caliza Hotel

On a triangular-shaped 'residual' piece of land adjoining a mangrove thicket on Holbox Island in the Mexican Caribbean, this small hotel is organized into three long bays with low walls that do not join together at the corners. These bays, which house the guest rooms, are covered by roofs made from Spanish cedar and traditional straw from the area. All the structures sit on a plinth that is elevated off the ground to protect it from the rising tides that often affect this changeable island.
