Alcobaça Monastery Renovation
Renovating part of a monastery for its conversion into hotel accommodation is not a new experience for our studio, however on this occasion, the complex to be refurbished was an exceptional monument, listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1989.
After the dissolution of the religious orders in 1834, the Alcobaça Monastery was converted into military barracks and later on, into an old people's home. Adaptation to these two uses destroyed part of the original complex, but it made it easier for us to do some of the necessary work for the installation of the new hotel.
