85 Social Houses Units in Cornellà de Llobregat
The 85-unit social housing building in Cornellà, Modulus Matrix, is rooted in an urban planning framework entirely defined by determinated parameters, where buildability and height limits coincided exactly. Its genesis, therefore, does not follow a preconceived urban form, but instead emerges from within, proposing an alternative way of inhabiting space. The project proposes a matrix of interconnected rooms, where a hypnotic square geometric pattern does not distinguish between aggregation and dwelling unit, but instead elevates the room as the core spatial and projective element. The regularity of this isotropic grid makes the pattern predictable; however, its uniformity hinders the functional reading of the space, due to the lack of differentiation between rooms. One could say, then, that despite the apparent rigidity of the floor plan, the experience of an indeterminate way of life ultimately prevails.
