54 Social Housing Units in El Besòs - PERIS+TORAL

Located in the South-West Polygon of El Besòs, in Barcelona's Sant Martí district, Social Atrium is a mixed-use building comprising 54 social housing units. It combines two-bedroom rental apartments with ground-floor sports facilities, including a multi-purpose hall, changing rooms connected to adjacent courts, and an underground car park with natural ventilation and daylight. Urban planning regulations define a hybrid block–tower typology, 17 metres deep, composed of a tower (ground floor + 10) and a lower block (ground floor + 4). The roof of the block, located on the fifth floor, offers a dual opportunity: socially, by creating a communal terrace at the heart of the building, and thermodynamically, by functioning as a large south-facing skylight that acts as a bioclimatic atrium for the lower floors.
