Bell-Lloc Cellars
RCR Arquitectes
The origins of this project lie in the construction of cellars for private wine production and consumption in an outstanding setting &mdashat the head of a valley beneath a mountain in a protected area. There are several types of buildings in this precinct, including a chapel at the foot of the slope. The cellar buildings hang like a comb, buried beneath the vines beside the track that connects them all on the covered, lowered section.
This is not a single precinct but rather a promenade that allows visitors to discover different spaces whose undulating line, in both plan and section, transforms their dimensions. The inertia of this excavated area is used to avoid any energy consumption in its environmental qualities. Its unusual appearance is the result of its spatial geometry and the materials &mdashsteel and stone&mdash which embrace visitors in a fresh, isolated, underground world where they can feel and taste a different time.
