Description

54 Social Housing Units in Bon Pastor

The project for 54 social housing units, Living in Lattice, arose from the Bon Pastor Redevelopment Plan, which demolished and replaced the former Casas Baratas [Affordable Houses] with a new layout of freestanding multi-storey blocks. The Casas Baratas estate, built in 1929 for the Barcelona International Exposition, was characterised by its ground-floor dwellings, which fostered a communal lifestyle and gave the neighbourhood the atmosphere of a village within the city. The participatory process, supervised and carried out by the municipal administration together with the residents affected by the relocation, established the guidelines for the public tender. These defined the aggregation of two dwellings per landing and the use of exposed brickwork to provide cohesion across the neighbourhood.
