White Ruins in Alentejo - Aires Mateus

In the traditional patterns of occupation in Alentejo, the houses appear on the high points of the undulating landscape, looking out over the surrounding territory. Their structures are apparent, designed to accommodate a simple life in an intimate relationship with the landscape. In these projects for Fonte Cabo and Monte do Corvo, in Santiago do Cacém and Melides, respectively, the decision was made to subtly rehabilitate, rediscover and redesign the ruins on the sites based on the existing elements.
