Vidago Palace Hotel and Spa

Vidago, Portugal, 2002 2010

The renovation of the Vidago Palace Hotel, designed by architect Ventura Terra and built in 1908 as part of the Vidago spa complex, was commissioned to us with the core brief for the restoration of its former high quality, the maintenance of the original volumetrics and spatial structure and the removal of some of the buildings that were responsible for its aesthetic and functional degradation. The necessary renovations included the construction of new service areas and a new spa centre. The hotel renovation work was aimed at achieving a 5 star rating for the 73 rooms and 9 suites. The programme is distributed across the six existing floors, with two additional two-storey wings (south and west), for the new hotel services. The ground floor of the southern extension includes a service area, galleries that provide a direct connection to the restaurant and a breakfast room, while the lower level houses the staff and goods entrance, the pre-preparation zone and the refrigeration room.
