Bruges Congress and Exhibition Centre - Eduardo Souto de Moura

Scale is not an intrinsic attribute but rather an adaptation of the object we want to build, the physical and mental circumstance of a geography we want to 'correct'. We have given our proposed building a scale that is associated with the three surrounding streets: Hauwerstraat, Maagdenstraat and Sin-Maartensbilk. The volume, surging up on the square, has a public character, not only on account of its height but also, primarily, through its language. There is also another scale, this one with less proximity. A panoramic scale, notable from the restaurant space on the top floor of the building, generates views towards the Bruges skyline, punctuated by its three charismatic towers.
