The work of Bernardo Bader has been described in two words by Kenneth Frampton as being on the 'architectural periphery'. However, this Eurocentric term, often used in a derogatory sense, does not apply to a place like the Vorarlberg province. Decades ago, a lively architectural scene was formed in this western part of Austria, and received much attention at the beginning of the 1980s, when Critical Regionalism was first discussed. Bernardo Bader's projects can be considered in the context of this tradition.
